How many times do they say it?
Not many, but I recognize it. It was they guy in our camera store yesterday, a woman four or five months ago. They said just what my dad said, just what he suggested…
“Son…”, he would say…
(okay, so he never actually called me “Son” but it’s important to the story)
“Son, if you take a whole roll of film and get just one good one, you’re doin’ okay.”
Maybe lots of dads say that because I hear others say the same thing from time to time.
So yeah—take lots of pictures. With a digital camera, there’s no excuse for not. Go high and low, move back & forth, shoot over- and under-exposed, go many places, try new things.
Little does Dad know I actually take about 360 pictures (not a roll of 36) and still get just one good one.
He’d still appreciate this, I just know it.

An awesomely perfect shot. I’d say you got some pretty good advice, son.
So true. In the digital age there’s no excuse to take a lot of pictures. BTW glad to hear you’re recovering from the surgery. My dad had major foot surgery and he hasn’t been able to do his usual snow plowing – so he, like you is happy for the mild winter so far. Keep the great images, thoughts, and advice coming. Peace.
